SACRAMENTO, CA, April 21, 2004 - Hansen Information Technologies (Hansen®) announced today that the City of Baton Rouge, Parish of East Baton Rouge, LA, population 227,818, has awarded Hansen a contract that will enable the Department of Public Work’s (DPW) Citizen Services Department to ensure appropriate and timely action is taken for all citizen requests. The new system will eventually include an enterprise-wide solution including customer service, a City-Parish portal Web site, mobile solutions for field workers, and Hansen’s sewer, storm, streets, plant, fleet, building modules. The system will also integrate the City-Parish GIS and combine citizen needs with geospatial data to make more informed decisions.

“Through our e-government initiative, our goal is to provide solutions to our citizens. By eliminating some of the stove pipes of local government, we can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of all government services, thus improving customer service and citizen accessibility to the government,” said Bobby Simpson, Mayor-President of Baton Rouge. “Hansen is a perfect fit, and builds on the e-government infrastructure already serving our citizens.”

The City of Baton Rouge and the Parish of East Baton Rouge operate under a consolidated form of government as approved under the Louisiana Constitution. The Executive Brach is headed by Mayor Bobby Simpson. The e-government efforts of the City-Parish are led by the executive branch and will involve and/or offer desirable service to many other branches of the government, the commercial and industrial sectors, local educational centers and, of course, the citizens.

"The Sewer Department for the City of Baton Rouge, Parish of East Baton Rouge has been a Hansen customer since 1989 using customer service, plant, sewer, GIS and inspections modules,” said Chuck Hansen, Chairman & CEO of Hansen. “We are delighted that they have selected us once again to help with this City/Parish-wide effort to offer additional improved services to their citizens.”

DPW Deputy Director, Glynn Cavin, was assigned to investigate and formulate a plan to provide improved service to the citizens. A user group was formed comprised of those entering data into the current system. After the needs of a new system were determined, six vendors were asked to respond to an RFP. Of the four that responded, Hansen was awarded the contract.

“The Hansen system was beyond the other vendors because it will allow the City-Parish to implement an enterprise solution in future years,” said Cavin. “Implementing an enterprise solution will allow us to provide a complete service to the external customer, and a superior product to our internal customers.”
