"We are delighted to be selected to provide a new Operations Management System for the New Brunswick Department of Transportation," said Chuck Hansen, Hansen's Chairman and CEO. "New Brunswick represents our first provincial win in Canada, and more importantly, becomes our first XML-based Hansen 8 Transportation solution in the world. Transportation infrastructure is a major investment for governments that require proactive management to track the performance of this long-term asset. We applaud the Department of Transportation for placing such a high priority on asset management and customer care."
A key aspect of the project will be to convert New Brunswick's highway asset inventory into Hansen's Linear/Spatial Asset Model. In contrast to generic asset management systems, Hansen has developed asset-specific data models for over 100 different public sector assets, able to store and display inventory, condition, costing, valuation, spatial, document, and image related data types. A unique feature of the new system will allow users to dynamically display and scroll through a complete profile of their roadways, showing work histories, activity-based costing, inspections, preventive maintenance schedules, and service requests.
"Transportation represents one of the most complex and demanding public sector assets to manage," stated John Buffington, Hansen's Chief Technology Officer. "That's why we decided to design, develop, and deploy our full array of transportation-specific assets into our XML-based Hansen 8 business object model first. After completing beta tests on our linear asset data model for transportation, we were able to create linear asset models for other assets as well."
