"Whatcom County selected Hansen 8 based on the need for an enterprise application
to provide a common software product that would serve several major county departments," said
Dewey G. Desler, Deputy Administrator, Director of Administrative Services.
"We are very pleased to be selected to provide a complete enterprise asset management
solution for Whatcom County," said Chuck Hansen, Chairman and CEO. "The scope
of our efforts will leverage years of expertise in developing and implementing
government software solutions like Hansen 8 to enable county's like Whatcom to
enhance operations."
"This is a great example of Hansen working hand-in-hand with its partners to
provide customers with the industry's best solution and professional services," added
Matt Kolbert, Strategic Alliance Manager. "Eskel Porter is one of the most well
respected state and local government consulting firms on the West Coast, and
we are thrilled to have them as part of our team in Whatcom County."
The project includes Hansen's groundbreaking new software release, Hansen 8,
the industry's only XML-based web solution for municipal asset management. Based
on Microsoft's .NET architecture, Hansen 8 represents a 100% Simple Object Access
Protocol (SOAP) solution; a key standard providing for HTTP/XML based remote
procedure calls for XML Web Services.
"Instead of using
XML as a bolt-on to Java or J2EE applications, we have adopted a 100% XML
solution," commented John Buffington, Hansen's Chief Technology Officer. "While
traditional Java-based applications often use message brokers and adapters
to communicate, our adoption of Universal Description Discovery and Integration
(UDDI) provides a searchable registry of XML and Web Services to seamlessly
integrate with other URLs and Web Services Description Language (WSDL) pages."
As part of Hansen and Eskel-Porter's scope of work, Whatcom County will be
receiving training on Hansen 8's application, personalization tools, and open
API.
